Plan your cross country

The best airports in Wisconsin

Charger, the airport cat

Wausau Downtown - AUW

This airport checks all the blocks. Beautiful approach coming over the river and what Wisconsin considers mountains. At the airport there’s courtesy bicycles that can get you to downtown Wausau. Be sure to say hi to the airport cat.

Watertown Muni -RYV

The quintessential long-cross country airport. Everyone around here goes to this airport for their solo cross country. And for good reasons. Culver’s is directly across the street, as well as a diner that I’ve never been to but people seem to like. Good airport couch situation.

Prarie Du Chien - PDC

Scenic approach coming in over the Mississippi River. There’s a couple of courtesy cars are available. Plenty of food options available locally. Couch situation could be better.

Whittman Regional -OSH

Best known as the location of Airventure. The rest of the year it’s a lot quieter. Taxi to Basler FBO and take a courtsy car to the EAA museum There’s no way to park your plane anywhere near the museum. Take the same car and stop by Pete’s Garage for food. The Hilton Garden has a ramp on the airfield directly adjacent to the hotel, very convinient. FBO couches are marginal. Pay the extra for full service fuel; the self serve pump is kinda janky.
